A Message from our Headteacher

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to Heronsbridge, a school that I have known about since I started my career in SEN/ALN more than 25 years ago and I consider it a privilege to find myself at the helm.

Heronsbridge has always been at the heart of special education in South Wales and it has a long-standing reputation as a school which opens its doors to share ideas and learn from others.

We have a large team of dedicated professionals, who never cease to amaze me with their commitment and passion in ‘going the extra mile’ for our pupils, enabling them to reach their potential and beyond.

Our motto is ‘Together We Can’ and when you visit us you will see this in the actions of staff/pupils/parents/governors/community members alike. It is often commented on that we are a school that ‘lives its values’

These are exciting times for education in Wales and we are working hard to prepare our pupils for the new Curriculum for Wales, whilst rolling out the changes brought about by the ALN Act, all of this alongside navigating our way safely from pandemic to endemic!

These are not the only exciting changes afoot, as Bridgend CBC have recently announced their intention to build a brand new, state-of-the-art, purpose built replacement Heronsbridge School. We have seen a huge growth in numbers over the years and whilst our beautiful building and grounds have served us so well, it will be rewarding to see the pupils get the classrooms, toilets, corridors and additional facilities that they so rightly deserve.

We never stand still, and continuously strive to develop our team through a comprehensive range of professional learning opportunities. We are firmly committed to the belief that Heronsbridge is a learning organisation for everyone.

Our sole purpose at Heronsbridge is to prepare our pupils for their next chapter in life, whenever and wherever that may be. We are a happy school, where everyone is valued and inspired to give of their best and whether you are a parent, friend or visitor please feel free to contact the school for more information.
